THE MYTH OF 'SUSTAINED PEAK PERFORMANCE' I was asked to speak on 'Sustained Peak Performance'. This is how I declined the offer! It's wonderful when an athlete or other performer (musician, business presentation etc) manages to perform at their peak. We can have peak performance, and we can work to specific peaks. But what we can't do is sustain peak performance. Try this - draw a sustained peak. You can't - it's an oxymoron. It's a plateau...and the longer you go on, you run out of ink ✏️!! So in human performance terms, it's important to recognise that both Sustained performance and Peak performance are possible, but both are a result of calculated rest, recovery, restoration, regeneration in between organised periods of effort/training/stress/stimulation. Getting the repeated recoveries right improves the peak. And averaged over the longer-term, it creates a high level of performance with sustainability. So that's how we changed the title and that's what I spoke about!
